ONE DAY I’LL FLY AWAY

Not being melancholic here or anything… it’s more about the uncertainty of my departure for Copenhagen.  Until now I don’t even know if my visa will be ready, so I’m not sure if I’ll be flying in less than two weeks.  But whatever happens I think I’m ready.

A friend asked me if I’m excited to leave.  When I asked myself that question, I found out that all the excitement has already passed, replaced by impatience and anxiety.  I’m a bit worn out from all the shopping and partying too.  (To all shopaholics there, this might sound blasphemous, but I swear, after 4 weekends of non-stop shopping for food, household items, a few appliances, clothes, etc., it took its toll on me.)  I’m also making the most out of my little time left here that I’ve been going out and travelling left and right with friends.  I’ve been to Baguio and Galera in just the last 3 weekends, then next weekend we might head off to Boracay.  If you’re one of my friends I haven’t seen in a while, please message me and we’ll schedule a long-delayed nightcap. :)

MS. CUNETA, I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

Anyway what else have I been up to?  Against my better judgment, I watched Dubai with a good friend from work.  I heard all those great reviews on TV from movie stars like Sharon Cuneta, Ricky Davao, Lotlot de Leon, etc., plus I read a few good reviews on the papers too, so I decided to watch it.  About one hour into the movie, I was already regretting my decision.  It was an overly ambitious film trying to tackle so many things that in the end it fell short on everything it tried to accomplish.  One thing it did accomplish though was make me and my friend laugh.  And laugh so hard in the theater we did that I think some of the people behind us were ready to throw popcorn and softdrinks our way to shut us up.  Some scenes were just unbearably bad and awkward that we had to laugh.  Watch it and see for yourself.

LEAVING GAPO

Now that I’m finally leaving Olongapo I’m starting miss it and regret all the wasted time.  Before I was assigned here, I had so many things I wanted to do — hike, go to the beach, go parasailing, see Ocean Adventure, etc.  I haven’t been able to accomplish any of those.  I wasn’t able to make a lot of friends here either early on because I was always going back to Manila on weekends, and now that I’ve made a few friends here just when I’m about to leave the feeling sucks big time.  Reminds me of a Barry Manilow song which also happens to be Circle 55’s Song (I think only a few will know what that is)… "All the time, all the wasted time…"

MY NEW BABY

They say that once you’ve started using a laptop, you’ll never want to use a desktop again.  Well after a month of deliberating what kind of laptop to buy, I finally took the big splurge and bought a Sony Vaio VGN-S360.  Had to pay cold hard cash for it because my credit wasn’t enough.  It’s a used unit but it still looks new and works perfectly well.  Now that I have it I’m planning to study how to edit videos and mix sound files (so I can make my own professional-sounding recordings featuring yours truly, hahahaha).

LOOKING AHEAD

Like I said, I’ve been waiting for my departure for so long that I’ve stopped thinking about all the things I want to do when I do get to Denmark.  I think I’ll make a list here just to remind myself:

1.  Travel, travel, travel! - I intend to see the other parts of Europe that I haven’t seen yet, plus revisit those that deserve a second helping:  Northern Spain, the French countryside, England, Northern Italy (plus Rome again), the Greek islands, Prague and some other parts of Eastern Europe, Sweden, Norway and Finland.  Hope I’ll have enough time (and money) to see all those places in two years.

2.  Host some cool parties (or simple lunches) in my apartment, where I intend to showcase my soon-to-be-discovered bartending skills and the best of Filipino cuisine.  Which reminds me, I still need to buy a cocktail shaker.

3.  Go kayaking/canoeing in the spring.  All that paddling last summer made me ache for more. ;P (MISE batchmates, you know what I’m talking about.)

4.  Find a regular tennis partner/group.

5.  Eat a lot of Norwegian salmon.

6.  Manage to save a lot of money to fly my parents to Europe and also be able to set up a small side business when I get home.  Which probably means I’ll have to scrimp on everything when I get there.

Just two more weeks (or so, depending on the visa) friends!  Hope to see you all before I leave. :)
